Two former partners of this firm,år. 11,F,Arnhold and Er. C.H.Arnhold declared themselves to be British subjects and opened business at Hankow, hanghai and Canton. There was some question as to whether they should be permitted to trade, but this was ultimately agreed to.

Messrs. Arnhold Karberg & Co's office in Shanghai was in the French settlement and the French Consul insisted that Er. Arnhold advertised in the papers that he had started business in his own name, and had later a new office, but cargo when measured was found to
be still stored in the old office.
Attached is copy of a translation of an intercepted letter from Lesars. Birenberg Gossler & Co. of Hamburg, dated 21st Lay, 1915, to Messrs. Arnhold harberg & Co.
of Shanghai in which the connection which still exists
between the two "British Messrs. Arnhold and their old
firm, is clearly defined.
ko public notice has been given that the brothers
Arnhold are no longer partners in Arnhold harberg & Co.
The Russian Vilitary Censor at retrograd recently
handed a bundle of intercepted German correspondence
to the dritish haval Attache, amongst these was a letter dated Bremen 17th March, 1915, from Messrs. Lelchers to their firm in Shanghai in which the following paragraph
appears:-
"It seems very difficult for you to start fresh *business transactions in Shanghai. It is said *that Arnhold, narberg & Co. are doing tremendous "business in liankow, after changing themselves into "an English firm".
